Journey from Phnom Penh to Hanoi on a 13-day small-group experience combining Cambodia’s ancient heritage with Vietnam’s cultural highlights and coastal scenery. Visit the Royal Palace and Cambodia’s powerful historic sites before exploring the UNESCO-listed temples of Angkor, including Bayon and Ta Prohm. Cross into Vietnam for the Cu Chi Tunnels, Hoi An’s historic streets and a garden-to-table dining experience, then continue to Hanoi for its temples and Old Quarter. The journey finishes with an overnight cruise among the limestone karsts and green waters of Halong Bay.

Day 01: PHNOM PENH

  • Arrive in Phnom Penh, where a complimentary airport arrival transfer is included subject to the applicable conditions.

  • Enjoy free time to settle in or stroll through the city and admire its French-influenced architecture.

  • Attend the important 06:00 p.m. welcome meeting to meet your leader and fellow travellers.

  • Insurance details and next-of-kin information will be collected during the meeting.

  • Highlight: Begin your journey with an included dinner at a riverside restaurant featuring Cambodian specialities such as beef lok lak or fish amok.

  • Accommodation: Hotel | Meals: Dinner.


Day 02: PHNOM PENH

  • Set out on a guided city tour beginning with the Royal Palace complex and sacred Silver Pagoda.

  • Continue to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21), a former school used as a detention and torture centre during the Khmer Rouge period.

  • Visit the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek to learn more about this difficult chapter of Cambodia’s recent history.

  • The private quarters of the Royal Palace remain closed to visitors as they are home to Cambodia’s King.

  • Optional visits include Wat Phnom, the National Museum or a Mekong River sunset experience.

  • Highlight: Gain a deeper understanding of Cambodia through its royal heritage and significant historic sites.

  • Accommodation: Hotel | Meals: Breakfast.

Important: The visits to Tuol Sleng and the Killing Fields deal with confronting subject matter and may be distressing. Travellers who prefer not to participate may speak with their leader about alternatives.


Day 03: SKUN, KAMPONG THOM, SIEM REAP

  • Travel towards Siem Reap, stopping at Skun Market along the way.

  • Visit Santuk Silkfarm, a social enterprise operated by local women where the complete silk-production process can be seen.

  • Enjoy an included home-cooked lunch prepared by women weavers at the silk farm.

  • Continue to Siem Reap, the gateway to the temples of Angkor.

  • Join your leader for an orientation walk after arrival, with the Old Market available to explore independently.

  • Highlight: Support a women-led social enterprise while learning about Cambodia’s traditional silk-making heritage.

  • Accommodation: Hotel | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch | Travel: Approx. 7 hours.


Day 04: SIEM REAP, ANGKOR

  • Spend the day exploring the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Angkor archaeological complex with an included one-day pass.

  • Join a guided visit through the temples, including impressive Bayon, known for its numerous carved faces and towers.

  • Visit an ancient monastery and meet a Buddhist monk for a traditional blessing ceremony.

  • Continue to Ta Prohm, where enormous trees have grown around and through the temple ruins.

  • Enjoy an included lunch at Spoons Restaurant and School, which provides hospitality training for disadvantaged local youth.

  • An optional sunrise visit to Angkor Wat can be arranged before the scheduled group tour.

  • Highlight: Experience one of Southeast Asia’s most significant archaeological landscapes, combining ancient Khmer architecture with living Buddhist traditions.

Note: If Spoons Restaurant and School is closed for a public or school holiday, an alternative restaurant will be used.


Day 05: KAMPONG PHLUK, SIEM REAP

  • Travel by riverboat through Kampong Phluk, a lakeside community known for its traditional wooden stilt houses.

  • See how local homes and daily life have adapted to seasonal flooding around the lake.

  • Pass through mangrove forest areas when seasonal conditions allow.

  • Later, visit the Cambodian countryside and walk among rice fields, family allotments and traditional homes.

  • Be welcomed into a local family’s stilt house for included sunset drinks and snacks.

  • Highlight: End your time in Cambodia with an included farewell dinner featuring authentic Cambodian cuisine.

  • Accommodation: Hotel | Meals: Breakfast, Dinner.


Day 06: SIEM REAP, HO CHI MINH CITY

  • Transfer to the airport and take the included international flight from Siem Reap to Ho Chi Minh City.

  • The flight operates without a tour leader accompanying the group.

  • On arrival in Vietnam, transfer from the airport to your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City.

  • As this is a combination journey, the group composition and group leader may change when entering the Vietnam section.

  • Attend a briefing with your Vietnam leader and meet any new travellers joining the group.

  • Highlight: Cross from Cambodia into Vietnam and begin the second chapter of your Southeast Asian journey.

  • Accommodation: Hotel | Meals: Breakfast.


Day 07: CU CHI, HO CHI MINH CITY

  • Travel to the famous Cu Chi Tunnels, a former Viet Cong stronghold and extensive underground tunnel network.

  • Learn about underground life during the Vietnam War and the resourcefulness involved in building and using the tunnels.

  • Return to Ho Chi Minh City and visit the historic Reunification Palace.

  • Learn about the palace’s role at the end of the Vietnam War and the surrender of South Vietnam.

  • An independent visit to the War Remnants Museum is possible afterwards.

  • Highlight: Explore two significant locations connected with Vietnam’s modern history.

Day 08: DA NANG, HOI AN, TRA QUE

  • Take an included domestic flight to Da Nang, then continue by private vehicle to Hoi An.

  • Later, travel with your leader to Tra Que for an included culinary experience.

  • Tour a local chef’s garden and select fresh herbs and vegetables for the evening meal.

  • Relax in the peaceful garden surroundings while a private chef prepares dinner.

  • Highlight: Enjoy a garden-to-table dinner showcasing fresh seasonal ingredients from Hoi An’s countryside.

Day 09: HOI AN

  • Join your leader for a walking tour through Hoi An Old Town, once an important regional trading port.

  • Visit a historic house and admire the town’s mix of Vietnamese, Chinese and European architectural influences.

  • Cross the iconic Japanese Covered Bridge.

  • Visit a Chinese assembly hall and local museum.

  • Spend the remainder of the day at leisure to browse Hoi An’s shops, galleries, lantern stalls and tailors.

  • Highlight: Walk through one of Vietnam’s most atmospheric historic towns and experience its centuries-old trading heritage.

  • Accommodation: Hotel | Meals: Breakfast.


Day 10: HANOI

  • Transfer to the airport and take an included domestic flight to Hanoi.

  • Join a guided half-day tour visiting the Temple of Literature and One Pillar Pagoda.

  • Continue to Ho Chi Minh’s Stilt House, the former residence of Vietnam’s revolutionary leader.

  • Enjoy an included lunch at KOTO, a social enterprise providing vocational training to disadvantaged young people.

  • Explore Hanoi Old Quarter on an included walking tour before enjoying free time in the capital.

  • Highlight: Combine Hanoi’s historic landmarks, street culture and a meaningful social-enterprise dining experience.

  • Accommodation: Hotel | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch | Travel: Approx. 3 hours.

Note: The One Pillar Pagoda and Ho Chi Minh’s Stilt House are closed on Mondays. When applicable, Hoa Lo Prison is visited instead.


Day 11: HALONG BAY

  • Travel by private vehicle to spectacular Halong Bay for an overnight cruise.

  • Sail slowly through green waters surrounded by beaches and dramatic limestone karsts.

  • Relax onboard while watching the scenery and sunset across the bay.

  • Enjoy included lunch and dinner onboard, including fresh seafood.

  • Overnight in a twin-share air-conditioned cabin with private facilities.

  • Highlight: Spend the night cruising among one of Vietnam’s most celebrated natural landscapes.

  • Accommodation: Overnight Boat | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner | Travel: Approx. 4 hours.

Note: A smaller overnight bag is recommended for the cruise, while main luggage can remain in Hanoi. Kayaking and swimming are limited to designated areas.


Day 12: HALONG BAY, HANOI

  • Rise early if you wish to watch the sunrise across Halong Bay.

  • Enjoy a leisurely morning cruise before returning to port.

  • Travel approximately four hours back to Hanoi.

  • Spend the afternoon at leisure, with Dong Xuan Market among the suggested places to visit independently.

  • An optional traditional water puppet performance is available in Hanoi.

  • You may also join your fellow travellers for an optional final dinner at your own expense.

  • Highlight: Enjoy a relaxed final evening in Hanoi after returning from Halong Bay.

  • Accommodation: Hotel | Meals: Breakfast | Travel: Approx. 4 hours.


Day 13: HANOI

  • Enjoy breakfast before the organised journey comes to an end.

  • There are no further scheduled activities today.

  • Additional accommodation can be arranged separately if you wish to extend your stay.

  • Optional extensions include a Ninh Binh Mini Adventure or Hiking in Sapa.

  • Highlight: Continue independently into northern Vietnam or enjoy additional time in Hanoi.

  • Meals: Breakfast.


IMPORTANT TRIP INFORMATION

  • Group Size: 1 to 12 travellers.

  • Minimum Age: 15 years.

  • Operating Period: 01 January 2027 to 31 December 2027.

  • Walking: The overall pace is generally easy, although the itinerary includes city walking tours and walking within caves at Halong Bay.

  • Temple Dress: Modest clothing covering the shoulders and knees is required when visiting temples and religious sites.

  • Sensitive Historical Sites: Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and the Killing Fields contain confronting material; participation can be skipped if preferred.

  • Combination Journey: The group leader and travelling group are likely to change in Ho Chi Minh City when the Vietnam section begins.

  • Single Supplement: Available subject to availability and excludes Day 11, when accommodation aboard the overnight boat is shared.

  • Arrival Transfer: Complimentary airport transfer is included for Day 01 arrivals or eligible pre-tour accommodation; flight details must be supplied at least 14 days before travel.

  • Included Flights: Scheduled domestic flights within Vietnam and the international flight between Cambodia and Vietnam are included.

  • Flight Baggage: Maximum allowance is 20 kg checked baggage and 7 kg carry-on baggage.

  • Flight Ticketing: Passenger names must exactly match the passport, including middle names; amendments within 45 days of departure may incur fees or require new tickets.

  • Halong Bay Luggage: A smaller overnight bag is recommended, while main luggage may be stored in Hanoi.

  • Halong Bay Operations: Boat availability can occasionally result in use of a larger shared vessel or the group being divided between vessels; routing may vary while scheduled inclusions remain unchanged.

  • Travel Insurance: Insurance details and next-of-kin information are collected at the Day 01 welcome meeting. Travel insurance is compulsory for international travellers, with at least medical expenses and emergency repatriation cover required; specific waiver provisions apply to travellers residing in the EU, Switzerland or USA.
