Journey through Bhutan on an 11-day women-only small-group experience for 1 to 12 travellers, travelling through Thimphu, Gangtey, Bumthang, Punakha and Paro. Hike through Himalayan valleys, forests and farmland while exploring monasteries, dzongs and sacred temples. Day 01: PARO, THIMPHU

  • Arrive at Paro International Airport, meet your female local leader and transfer to Bhutan’s capital, Thimphu.

  • Highlight: Begin your journey at approximately 2,300 metres above sea level, surrounded by the landscapes of the Thimphu Valley.

  • Attend the welcome meeting at 06:00 p.m., followed by an included welcome dinner with your group.

  • Stay at Thimphu Tower, a female-owned hotel supporting employment opportunities for local women, girls and single mothers.

  • A complimentary arrival airport transfer is included; flight details must be supplied in advance.

  • Accommodation: Hotel

Day 02: THIMPHU

  • Begin with a light two-hour hike from Sangaygang Viewpoint to Wangditse Monastery through pine forest.

  • Enjoy an included Bhutanese lunch at the female-owned Edelweiss Restaurant, then visit the impressive Buddha Dordenma.

  • Visit Bhutan Post Office Headquarters and Postal Museum, known for Bhutan’s unusual and historic stamp collection.

  • Stop at Gagyel Lhundrup Weaving Centre to watch local artisans producing traditional Bhutanese textiles.

  • Highlight: Browse around 80 stalls at the Bhutanese Crafts Bazaar, showcasing traditional handicrafts and artworks.

  • Accommodation: Hotel

    Hiking: Approximately 2 hours.


Day 03: DOCHULA PASS, GANGTEY

  • Travel towards Gangtey Valley, passing Bhutan’s mountain and forest landscapes along the way.

  • Stop at Dochula Pass, situated at approximately 3,100 metres above sea level.

  • See the 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens, constructed in honour of Bhutan’s fourth king.

  • Enjoy an included lunch overlooking the Punatsangchu River before continuing to Gangtey.

  • Highlight: Journey through one of Bhutan’s celebrated highland passes before reaching the peaceful Gangtey Valley.

  • Accommodation: Guesthouse

Day 04: GANGTEY

  • Visit Gangtey Goemba, an important 17th-century monastery, meet resident monks and participate in a prayer ceremony.

  • Follow the easy Gangtey Nature Trail through meadows and farmland, surrounded by the landscapes of the valley.

  • Enjoy lunch before some free time during the afternoon.

  • Join local women at a farmhouse for a hands-on cooking class preparing ema datshi, Bhutan’s national chilli-and-cheese dish.

  • Highlight: Share your freshly prepared meal with local women while learning about everyday rural Bhutanese life.

  • Accommodation: Guesthouse
    Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
    Hiking: Approximately 2 hours.


Day 05: TRONGSA, BUMTHANG

  • Travel towards Bumthang, Bhutan’s spiritual heartland, with approximately six hours of travel today.

  • Stop at Trongsa Ta Dzong Museum, a historic watchtower showcasing Bhutan’s royal history.

  • Enjoy an included lunch at a local restaurant before continuing to Bumthang.

  • Visit the Yathra Textile Factory, where textiles made from sheep and yak wool are woven by local women.

  • Highlight: Finish the day exploring Chamkhar Town, the commercial centre of Bumthang and home to local markets.

  • Accommodation: Hotel

Day 06: BUMTHANG

  • Visit Jambay Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest sacred temples, dating to around the 7th century.

  • Continue to Kurjey Lhakhang, a monastery associated with Guru Rinpoche and Bhutan’s Buddhist heritage.

  • Take a short and easy walk through the landscapes of Bumthang Valley.

  • Highlight: Join your local leader for a sound bath among the pine forests using traditional Himalayan singing bowls.

  • Accommodation: Hotel
    Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
    Hiking: Approximately 1 hour.


Day 07: PUNAKHA

  • Travel approximately seven hours to Punakha, Bhutan’s former capital.

  • Visit Punakha Dzong, a 17th-century complex located at the meeting point of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers.

  • Discover the historic palace complex that served as the seat of Bhutan’s government until the 1950s.

  • Walk across the approximately 180-metre Punakha Suspension Bridge, one of the longest suspension bridges in Bhutan.

  • Highlight: Experience one of Bhutan’s most striking combinations of traditional architecture, mountains and river scenery.

  • Accommodation: Hotel

Day 08: PUNAKHA

  • Hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, overlooking the landscapes of the Punakha Valley.

  • Enjoy an included picnic lunch beside the river before continuing your sightseeing.

  • Visit Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Lhakhang Nunnery and spend time sharing tea and snacks with one of the resident nuns.

  • Walk leisurely through paddy fields towards Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the Fertility Temple.

  • Highlight: Connect with Bhutanese monastic life through a personal encounter at a hilltop women’s nunnery.

  • Accommodation: Hotel
    Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
    Hiking: Approximately 1 hour.

Day 09: PARO

  • Drive approximately four hours back to Paro, stopping for an included lunch along the way.

  • Visit Ta Dzong National Museum and learn about Bhutan’s history and cultural heritage.

  • Continue to a female-owned farmhouse for an included traditional Bhutanese cultural performance.

  • Take part in a workshop preparing and tasting Ara, Bhutan’s traditional alcoholic drink.

  • Highlight: Relax with an included traditional Bhutanese herbal hot stone bath, followed by dinner at the farmhouse.

  • Accommodation: Hotel

Day 10: TIGER’S NEST, PARO

  • Begin early for the approximately five-hour hike to Taktsang Monastery, better known as Tiger’s Nest.

  • Follow the moderate cliffside trail towards the monastery, which sits at approximately 3,120 metres above sea level.

  • Stop for lunch during the excursion before completing your visit and descending from the monastery.

  • Later, explore Rinpung Dzong, a historic 17th-century fortress overlooking the Paro Valley.

  • Highlight: Complete Bhutan’s iconic hike to Tiger’s Nest, dramatically positioned against the cliffs above Paro.

  • Accommodation: Hotel

Day 11: PARO

  • Enjoy breakfast before taking the included transfer to Paro International Airport.

  • Highlight: Conclude your women-only Bhutan journey after exploring the kingdom’s landscapes, traditions and cultural heritage.

  • A complimentary departure airport transfer is included; flight details must be supplied at least 14 days before travel.

  • Due to Bhutan’s group-visa requirements, all travellers must depart Bhutan today.

  • Meals: Breakfast.


IMPORTANT TRIP INFORMATION

  • Group Size: 1 to 12 travellers.

  • Minimum Age: 15 years old.

  • Airport Transfers: Complimentary arrival and departure transfers are included; flight details are required at least 14 days before travel.

  • Bhutan Visa: The required group visa and its cost are included; all travellers must arrive on Day 01 and depart on Day 11.

  • Visa Documents: Passport copy, passport photo, email address and arrival/departure flight details are required for the group visa application.

  • Passport: A minimum of 6 months passport validity from the time of travel is required for the Bhutan visa application.

  • Extra Nights: Independent travel or additional nights inside Bhutan outside the group-trip dates cannot be arranged under the group visa.

  • Sustainable Development Fee: Bhutan’s government Sustainable Development Fee is included in the trip price.

  • Altitude: The highest point visited is approximately 3,120 metres at Tiger’s Nest, where altitude effects may occur.

  • Tiger’s Nest: The hike takes approximately 5 hours and is vigorous; at least moderate fitness and sturdy walking shoes are recommended.

  • Long Drives: Several road journeys take 4–7 hours, and narrow, winding roads may cause delays or motion sickness.

  • Road Conditions: Landslides and roadworks can occasionally cause delays or diversions.

  • Accommodation: The listed accommodation style is a guideline and similar-standard alternatives may be used if required.

  • Single Supplement: Available for all nights, subject to availability and additional cost.

  • Luggage: Pack lightly; a small-to-medium main bag and a 25–30 litre daypack are recommended, and travellers must handle their own luggage.

  • Religious Sites: Modest dress is required when visiting temples and other religious sites.

  • Travel Insurance: Compulsory for international travellers, with at least medical expenses and emergency repatriation cover required; specific waiver provisions apply to travellers residing in the EU, Switzerland or USA.

  • Flight Connections: Flights to and from Bhutan can experience timetable changes or delays, so sufficient connection time is recommended.
